Finding Nemo

Lately, the boys favorite movie is Finding Nemo.  I love it too, so we watch it a lot. Today I have to pick S & M up from school, so I let them watch it to get us through the afternoon. ( Not to mention I went to a meat sale and had to cook off 10 lbs of beef for my sisters shower-- to make Chili)  Anyway, the other day I was listening to Janet Parshall's In the Market http://www.jpamerica.com/ and they were talking about all the good things about friendship you can learn from Pixar movies.  So I watched this time with that in mind.

You know, I can't watch that movie without getting teared up.  Just thinking about how Marlin loves Nemo so much and would do anything to find him again- conquering all his fears to get Nemo back.  It reminds me of what God did for the Israelites so many years ago (and, quite frankly, still does today for us all).  He pursued them, made them his people and loved them.  He didn't have any fears to conquer, but I do. There are lots of things going on in life right now and lots of things i really need to trust God to take care of.  If I could just remember that my God, my Savior, is pursuing me.  He longs to carry my burdens for me.

Oh, and on the potty training front- G has gone all morning without an accident.  Now if I can convince him that he can poop on the potty!!

Potty Training

Today I am giving potty training a second try.   This is #4 so you would think that I would have this down by now, but #4 is a different child.  He is passive and he really doesn't care if he sits in his own poop all day long.  I know eventually he'll get it so I am not stressed, but it still is annoying.

We walked upstairs to try again (going has never been his problem he'll pee on demand, but he never will ask to go) #3 followed us up the steps with "monkey" (actaully a toy bear, but he was named Monkey by #4) #3 said to us "Monkey is going to watch you pee potty!"  Then when the pee started coming Monkey had to shove his face really close to watch.  Hey, whatever gets it done right?

The Help

I just finished reading The Help by Kathryn Sockett.  It was a wonderful book reminding me not to take forgranted the people in my life.  I read this for my book club, so when it came time to have our meeting I decided to try Minny's Carmel cake.  (Not the other pie!)  So I found 2 recipes.  One from Paula Dean http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/bobbys-caramel-cake-recipe/index.html and the other off About. com: http://southernfood.about.com/od/cakerecipes/r/r81130k.htm  What a mess.  First my cakes wouldn't come out of the pans, then my carmel didn't turn out.  What a fiasco. So I made a 3rd cake.  While it turned out better, it still wasn't wonderful.  I took the 3rd cake to my book club.   I took the first cake- that was falling apart- to my kids school for the teachers to nibble on.  The 2nd batch I did in cupcakes.  I froze them to use on a later date.   Today I went to get the rest of the cake from the teachers.  I have to say it was better than the rest.  It was Paula's recipe and despite it being super messy the carmel in each layer added so much to the cake.  I will have to try this recipe again.
